ABOUT ME

So much animal cruelty is due to ignorance. I hope that through this website, i can make people more aware of the plight of animals, and make people see that there are many ways in which every one of us can help end their suffering....

Animals are used and abused in so many horrendous and needless ways, whether it be for food, entertainment, sport, research and experiments or clothing. Too many people seem to find it easy to ignore their suffering, or have no idea that it even exists. If only animals could speak, maybe it wouldn't be so easy to abuse them or ignore them. Thankfully there are people who are prepared to speak out, and be the voice for animals, those people are my heroes. It is just so sad that others don't want to listen....Is ignorance really that bliss?
Some people seem to rate success in life by how big your house is, what car you drive, how you look, your job title, and how much money is in your bank account. Are these things really a measure of how important or successful somebodies life has been? Well not to me. For me, i see people who have compassion and empathy for all life, as being those who have achieved something worthwhile in their lives. These people can make a difference, these people can actually change things for the good. These are the kind of people that impress me, and matter to me. I just find people obsessed with money and appearance, those who base their judgements of others by those things, to be shallow and selfish. People who do not care about, or who can ignore the suffering of any other life seem completely alien to me. How can any decent person do that?
How can the same people that are up in arms about a woman putting a cat in a wheelie bin, then go home and happily chomp on a meal that contains so much more torture and abuse than that poor cat ever suffered?
How can people say they love whales and dolphins, then go to see them in prisons such as seaworld?
How can the same people that are disgusted by the seal slaughter still wear leather? Shouldn't cows have the same rights as seals? They are slaughtered in an equally barbaric way, and feel the same pain, so what is the difference? Aren't cows cute enough or something?
I have never heard one good reason for not being vegan, just lots of stupid and selfish excuses. Eating meat and dairy causes environmental destruction, damages human health, contributes to global hunger and inflicts immense suffering on billions of animals across the world.
Too many people try to convince themselves that the above isn't really true, or doesn't apply to the country they live in. Sadly they are wrong, it is true, and it happens everywhere. How can any decent person ignore these facts? If we refuse to accept the truth, if we refuse to change, then the world will continue to decline in a downward spiral of cruelty and destruction. Is that really what you want for future generations?
If i could ask one thing of eveybody, it would be to watch the documentary films called 'Earthlings', 'The Cove', 'Minority pastime' and 'meet your meat'. There are links on my video and documentaries page. Educate yourselves to the facts, then make an informed decision on how cruelty free and compassionate you want your life to be. Turning away from the truth, because it might be hard to watch, will never help anyone, it will never solve anything. We need to all start taking responsibility for our actions and decisions. If you eat meat, you are as much to blame for those animals suffering as the man who slits their conscious throats. If you visit dolphins and whales in captivity you are paying towards the misery of those that live, and the thousands that are slaughtered every year, because of places like Seaworld. These are facts, can you really live knowing you have blood on your hands? Selfishness and a lack of empathy are slowly destroying this planet and its inhabitants, we all need to remove our blinkers before it is too late, PLEASE!

Here are just a few of the things that you may learn while reading this site....

Every year thousands of dolphins are slaughtered, thanks to places like Seaworld. These beautiful and intelligent animals are herded up into inlets, like Taiji cove in Japan. The 'nicest looking' dolphins are sold and taken off to a miserable life in captivity all around the world. The rest ( which include babies and pregnant females ) are slaughtered, their deaths are neither quick or painless. If you visit dolphins and whales in captivity, your money goes towards this slaughter.

Approximately 18,000 foals are born into the closely-related British and Irish racing industries each year, yet only around 40% go on to become racers. Those horses who do not make the grade may be slaughtered for meat or repeatedly change hands in a downward spiral of neglect. Of those horses who do go on to race, over 500 are raced to death every year in the UK alone.
Over 90% of racehorses have gastric ulcers, due almost entirely to the way they are kept, fed and worked.

Each year hundreds of healthy greyhounds & lurchers are needlessly put to sleep in the UK and this figure is repeated throughout many countries in the world!
Many ex-racing greyhounds have their ears cut off to remove identity tattoos, so owners cannot be traced, before being dumped. Some are starved, others killed.

Does a night at the dogs seem so harmless now?

Rain forests are still being felled to graze hamburger cattle. Going vegan saves one acre of forest every year.
On irrigated land, 1lb of vegetables uses 25 gallons of water. 1lb of beef uses 5,214 gallons of water.
If Britain went vegetarian, less than half the farm land would be needed - vegan, less than a quarter!
Every year in Britain, one billion gallons of pesticides are used - 200 chemicals, 50 suspected of causing cancer.
Farmed animals rank second in causing global warming. Reason - methane from prolific farting and belching.

Vegetarian diets offer disease protection because of lower saturated fat, cholesterol and animal protein and higher folates, antioxidant vitamins and plant nutrients.
Vegetarians have lower rates of obesity, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, large bowel disorders, cancers and gallstones.
Vegetarians have half to three-quarters the risk of dying of heart disease compared to non-vegetarians.
Cancer rates among vegetarians are 25-50 per cent less than non-vegetarians.

Every year 30-60% of British cows suffer from mastitis, an acutely painful infection causing swollen, weeping udders. Traces of pus from infected teats seep into the milk. Current regulations permit MILLIONS OF PUS CELLS PER LITRE!
There are no nutrients in milk, calcium included, that cannot be obtained from other sources.
Many dairy cows are slaughtered by the age of five, emaciated and infertile. A cows natural life span is 25 years!
Cow’s milk is neither a natural or healthy drink for humans who are the only mammals to consume milk after weaning, not only that but the milk of another species! Scientific research links the consumption of cow’s milk and dairy products with a wide range of health problems including acne, runny noses, wheezing, coughing, ear infections, rashes, stomach upsets, asthma, eczema, arthritis, heart disease, diabetes and prostate cancer. Dairy products have also been linked to ovarian and breast cancer. Also allergies, juvenile-onset diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome.
Over 80% of cattle killed for meat are calves of dairy cows taken from their mothers at a day or two old, causing huge grief and stress to both mother and baby. Some are killed immediatley for veal. Others live for a year in a shed, standing in their own excrement. They never get to graze. Beef cattle face brutal mutilation, castration and dehorning, often without anaesthetic and usually without painkillers. All face the terror of barbaric slaughter. First they are stunned by having a steel bolt fired into their forehead, this doesnt always work, causing excrutiating pain. Death comes from having their throats slit.

Each year in the UK approximately 30 million day old male chicks are gassed or tossed alive into giant industrial shredders, disposed of because they are unable to lay eggs and are considered too scrawny a type of chicken for meat production.
Don't be fooled by terms such as 'farm fresh', 'country fresh' and 'fresh from the barn'. These are terms conjured up to disguise the cruelty involved in egg production. The reality is millions of hens are imprisoned for life in filthy, cramped conditions. Never seeing daylight, breathe fresh air or exercise their natural instincts. 'Free range' conjures up images of happy hens free to roam in the open air, the reality is very different. Thousands of hens are still packed into sheds with limited access to the outdoors. Some hens never make it to the outside due to the severe overcrowding they don't find it possible to fight their way through to the exits and open air.
Four-fifths of broiler chickens (killed for meat) have broken bones and deformed feet, legs and other bone deformities.
Up to one fifth of chickens may be fully conscious when they enter the scalding tank to loosen their feathers.

Piglets should remain with their mother for months, but are removed in under four weeks. Because their digestive systems are immature they develop diarrohea, and so begins a lifetime of them being force fed powerful drugs, some to cure disease, some to prevent it and some to make them grow faster. Painful mutilations are carried out without anaesthetics or painkillers. Tails are amputated and teeth snapped off.
Almost all pork, bacon, ham, pepperoni and pork sausage sold in the UK come from factory farm pigs. This is the modern way of farming animals, to get as many animals into the smallest space possible, to reduce costs. A large pig is officially entitled to less than 1 square metre. These pig units are filthy, barren concrete cells. Bedding is a rarity so many pigs are forced to sleep on dirty wet concrete floors.

To get 'spring' lambs to market as early as possible, females are manipulated into bearing too many lambs too early in the year. Often three instead of one. The death toll from cold, hunger and disease is enormous with over four million lambs dying every year, thats 20% of the total. Females are artificially inseminated by having the semen injected directly into their womb.

Billions of fish are dragged from the sea, suffocating, and often gutted and filleted while still alive. Both fish farm and wild caught fish are polluted with toxins, this can pose a serious threat to human health. Fish is not a healthy alternative to eating other meat. As the worlds oceans are exploited this has a knock on effect to the other sea animals that need fish to survive. Trawling also destroys sea beds.

95 per cent of all food poisoning comes from meat and animal products.

A large percentage of the population ( around 70% ) is thought to be dairy or lactose intolerant as our bodies were never meant to consume milk passed weaning, and we were certainly never meant to drink the milk of another animal.
If you suffer from any of the following symptoms it may be worth cutting dairy out of your diet for a while, to see if the symptoms clear up. Some of the most common complaints include ear infections in children, sinusitis, heartburn/reflux, constipation, diarrohea, and irritable bowel syndrome. A more complete list includes: :-
* Abdominal Pain
* Acne
* ADD/ADHD
* Anxiety
* Arthritis
* Canker sores
* Constipation
* Diarrhea
* Ear Infections
* Fatigue
* Fibromyalgia
* Gas
* Headaches
* Heartburn
* Indigestion
* Iron deficient anemia
* Irritability
* Irritable Bowel Syndrome
* Joint Pain
* Lactose Intolerance
* Osteoporosis
* Poor Growth
* Poor immune function (frequent illness)
* Sinusitis

Over 3.6 million animals are used in scientific research every year in the UK. Only 18% of those for new medicines.

Never kid yourself that UK slaughter houses have strict rules, so the animals can't possibly suffer. Animal aid went undercover in 2009 and filmed hour after hour of abuse in six slaughter houses. Slaughter houses that provide meat for major supermarkets.
Animal Aid filmed:
* Pigs and sheep going to the knife without adequate stunning
* Pigs and sheep stunned and then allowed to come round again
* Pigs, sheep and calves crying out and struggling to escape
* Pigs being kicked in the face and sheep thrown to the floor
* Pigs and sheep with illness or injury being slaughtered
* A sheep too sick to stand – or possibly already dead – being brought to slaughter in a wheelbarrow
* A ewe being stunned and killed while her young was suckling her
* Ewes watching as their young are killed
* Pigs falling from the slaughter line into the blood pit and being dragged out and re-shackled while other pigs look on
* An inadequately stunned young calf lying kicking on the floor and the stun operator standing on him to keep him still
